Dreaming in red

. . . .

In The Loss of Truth, https://www.livingmyth.org/living-myth-podcast-69-the-loss-of-truth, Michael Meade refers to the Greek word for truth alethia, which translates as “not to forget”. Meade searches for truth and meaning in the old myths “where a person could find themselves caught between Lethe, the River of Forgetfulness or Oblivion, and Mnemosyne, the River of Great Memory and imagination”. He goes on to talk about the loss of practices of ritualized initiation in our culture and that through initiation we sometimes are able to re-connect or re-member what our soul’s work is intended for. In our modern culture an initiation can sometimes be ignited by a great loss or a traumatic experience in our lives, taking us deep within ourselves where the sum of our experiences might transform us as if there had been a mythic alchemical process, stirring the soul, aiming us towards our lives in a new and profound way.
Along with both specific and mythic life challenges, the work of the soul through initiation and transformation was at the root of these paintings; Dreaming in Red.

kintsugi

. . . .

Feeling the pull and the ache of a rapidly shifting planet ~
Kintsugi is a Japanese word meaning "golden repair". In a multitude of ways I apply this practice symbolically to represent the repairing of the cracks and fissures of our culture and of our planet. A scar is not only the site of injury but more importantly a place of healing.
